Mobile Bay LPGA Classic: First-round leader Rosales tumbles to tie 16
First-round leader, Jennifer Rosales, tumbled to tie 16 in the second round of the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic, being played at Magnolia Grove’s Crossings Course.
Rosales, the Filipino star, shared the lead in the first round after she carded a 67 along with three other players.
However, she slipped outside the top-10, partly because of losing her momentum and partly because other players improved their positions, entering the second round.
Rosales kicked off the round with plenty of confidence, as she shot her first birdie on the very first hole. She then parred the 2nd hole and went for another birdie on the par-4 3rd.
Despite getting off to an impressive start, Rosales faltered on the par-4 5th, as she carded a bogey. She, however, bounced back on the very next hole, reeling off her third birdie.
On the back nine, the 33-year-old star recorded one birdie and three bogeys. She amazed the spectators when she posted her fourth birdie on the 10th.
Analysts said that despite playing with a solid plan, Rosales looked like she had lost her momentum during the round. She made lousy strokes, as she bogeyed the par-4 11th, par-5 13th and the last hole.
Rosales said that her putting was the reason behind such a grim performance. In the first round, she said that her putting was perfect, helping her post a decent score.
“Actually, today was an easy day for me. I hit most of the fairways and greens. I only missed I think a green today. My putting was very good today,” she said of the first-round performance, during her interview.
The young star has been having fitness issues lately, which has kept her from showing her full potential.
Analysts said that despite having a wrist problem, Rosales has been stunning, although she has not won an event in a long time.
“Actually, my wrist, but my wrist is doing fine now. Actually, yesterday I strained my calves here and they thought it was like a blood clot, so I went and had it (inaudible) yesterday, because Carolyn didn’t want to work with it, she's kind of scared it
might pop and might have a stroke,” the 33-year-old Filipino said.
