Mobile Bay LPGA Classic: Suzann Pettersen atones for first-round mistakes
Suzann Pettersen, who faltered in the first round of the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic after standing tied for the 68th, carded a 68 to stand tied for the 35th spot on the second day at Crossings Course, Alabama.
Pettersen displayed a phenomenal performance in the second round, as she looked determined to atone for the first-round lapses.
The world number three shocked her fans on the opening round, as she exhibited a woeful performance. She faltered on most of the holes and walked off the course with her head down.
The second day was perfect for the Norwegian star, as the weather conditions remained calm most of the day.
With modest winds sweeping through the course, Suzann kicked off the round with a solid strategy.
She amazed the spectators, as she avoided making any bogeys, and shot four birdies.  She parred the first four holes and went for her first birdie of the round on the par-4 5th. She then parred the remaining holes on the front nine to post a 35.
On the back nine, she looked even more careful, as she made balanced strokes. She birdied the par-4 11th and parred the next four holes.
She let the fans see her magic once again when she reeled off two straight birdies on the par-5 16th and the difficult par-3 17th.
Analysts said that the roster was strong, despite the absence of the current world number one Yani Tseng and Michelle Wie. Pettersen was regarded as one of the hot favourite contenders at the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic.
They said that carding a series of bogeys and one double bogey dampened Pettersen’s spirits on the opening day, but she bounced back in the second round.
Top-ranked players are finding it difficult to grab the top spots, given the second-round stats. The current world number two, Na Yeon Choi stood tied for the 23rd at the end of the second round.
Choi saw a decline in her leaderboard position, as she was standing tied for 21st after the first round.
American Stacy Lewis is the current leader after she carded a 67. Lewis improved her position in the second round, as she shot six birdies and just one bogey.
