  1. I would not go for international roaming, unless you specifically wanted to be contactable by your existing mobile number (e.g. if you are expecting calls from business asociates that you have not told you are travelling). It is very expensive. Calls are expensive to make, and you have to pay for incoming calls too!

For your case, I would recommend you buy a Sim card when you get to France. You then insert it in your phone, provided it is compatible with the French network and is not locked into a specific operator.

You have to buy some credit, which you use for outgoing calls (incoming calls are free).

Typical prices: about 15 euros for the card, which includes 5 or 10 euros of credit, depending on the operator.

  2. If you have the right type of mobile phones they can be used in France. All that is needed is to have international roaming enabled. My phone which operates on the Cingular network, works perfectly well in Paris with this adjustment. Speak with your mobile phone network provider about this.
