Mobile phone Travelling 3 weeks Canada 1 week USA from Australia?

Going on holiday with a friend and at times we will be doing different things so need to stay in touch. What's the best way around this . would it be to go on Roaming or should we buy a sim card in each country what would be the cheapest way. Thanks

A cheaper alternative is if you and those at home set up VOIP accounts.  Skype is the most prevalent.  You can then call from any cyber shop for the cost of the log on.
