Model Pupil’s next target for the season presents itself in the form of the MBNA Chester Vase
Model Pupil, Sinndar’s three-year-old bay colt out of mare, Modesta, won the Get Your Bets On At Bluesquare.Com Maiden Stakes on 18th April at Newmarket over a mile and two furlongs.
Charles Hills’ under charge was guided through the track by jockey, Michael Hills. The leading pair took lead by a mere nose’s difference and had the 5/4 favourite of the race, Shantaram, qualifying as the runner up.
Finishing the race third in line after the winner was Yazdi.
His career debut was in the Wedgewood Estates E B F Maiden Stakes (Division I) on 17th September 2011 at Newbury over seven furlongs. Model Pupil ended third as the race was won by Mighty Ambition and qualifying as the runner up was Rewarded.
The 7/2 favourite of the race, Firestarter, could only finish once Model Pupil had raced through the wire.
The three-year-old colt is now being targeted for the Class 1 MBNA Chester Vase at Chester over a mile, four furlongs and sixty-six yards on Thursday, 10th May.
The rest of the contenders for the race include David Livingston, Call To battle, Mickdaam and Minimise Risk.
Leading with the 13/8 odds is the A. P. O’Brien under charge, David Livingston, who will be ridden by Joseph O’Brien.
The level of competition has notched up as compared to the two races that the three-year-old has already raced. He will be riding with Michael Hills for the second time with the race being his first experience at Chester.
"We had the choice of this and the Dee Stakes and, on paper, there didn't look to be much between the two races, but Bonfire was going for the other one and he looks a nice horse. I can't see the ground being an issue, there's no reason why he shouldn't handle it as Sinndars seem to go on anything."
How will the second start of the season treat the three-year-old will unfold soon.
Hills said: "He showed a really nice attitude at Newmarket, he did really well to win. He's got a great temperament and I couldn't be happier with how he came out of the race. I've been delighted with him since and the extra couple of furlongs should really be in his favour, the way he's bred.”
