Okay so I really wanna model, because everyone says I'd be good at it and it'd be a good way to make some money. Plus, it just sems fun. I'm only fifteen and I'm going to high school in Greensboro. There's not that many agencies in Greensboro so I'm scared to pay lik $600 for a portfolio and not get signed. Does anyone have any advice on that? Like how to get a cheap but quality portfolio? And by chance if there's anyone here from Greensboro and a model what are the chances of getting signed?

  1. Portfolios are always expensive! Thats what sucks about modeling but first find an agency and sometimes you can haggle with them and they probably know of a job that you could have if you do your portfolio through them. Good Luck! :)

  2. Is there an art school near you?  Or even a state school with a photography program?  I'm in art school and we're always looking for models, and you'd be surprised at how hard they can be to find.  We sometimes have to post ads on craigslist (which you could probably check too).  But if you find students that need models and you need to build the portfolio you guys can swap.  They give you some prints of you best shots for your portfolio and you pose for their photos to build theirs!

That's the cheapest, and probably funnest way to help each other out like that.  :)

    Good luck.

  3. well i mom was like a stick like 100 pounds at 17 and they said she was to fat to model so i wouldnt waste my money

  4. Hmm Well you can always go to your local community college and ask some college photographers if they would like to take pictures of you to broaden there photography. They'd do it for free ask them for a CD of the photoshoot and print it yourself

If your really want to do this then money shouldnt be a factor

  5. don't waste your money

  6. find a local art school and see if youcan get a student to do them.  they are looking to build their portfolio as well and will be happy to help.

  7. Look for "open calls" at local agencies ... most have them once a year, some more often.

Look on Model Mayhem and One Model Place for local photographers who shoot TFP/TFCD sessions with up and coming models.  You will have to have one of your parents accompany you to all your sessions and sign a TFP/TFCD release each time, but the more face time you can get in front of each photographer, the better

  8. Do you really want to put your professional aspirations in the hands of a "cheap" portfolio. Fact is that a photographer can make or break your budding career. Modeling agencies see hundreds or thousands of photos, so you need yours to be perfect. That means you have to spend some money on the best photographer you can afford. Consider it an investment on your future.

Also, an experienced fashion photographer will be able to give you not only advice, but should also be honest with your potential.

Just be careful and NEVER go to a photo shoot alone.
