  1. Hi Candace

What you are need are good shots of 10 black and whites and about 5 colored pics.

When you get interviewed, the person sees the real you so it is irrelevant how many pics you show or whatever.

Just get some good headshots with your head turned slightly to the left and some head shots with the head turned to the right and choose the one that you look the best. Their is always a good and bad side of the face which accounts as to why most models never do head shot unless it if for beauty magazines.

Don't take overhead shot with you looking up at the camera. This is the pit. Be natural. If you smile, make it natural. Actually, a serious look or a 'attitude look" is always effective.

  2. From what I've heard (so please take it with a grain of salt),

Get a mix of headshots, 3/4 and full length

Make sure you get at least one full length that shows your figure - swimsuit, jogging outfit, etc

Make sure one of the headshots has no makeup anf has not been photoshopped

Clothes similar to what type of modeling you would like to do (so you might need different portfolios for different modeling gigs)

  3. You should find yourself an agent, and they will find you a photographer that will help you with your modeling portfolio. After the photographer has taken pictures, he will send them to your agent and your agent can put them together in a portfolio. Then your agent will do the rest for you by sending your portfolio to many different photographers and companies.

    Good luck!

  4. You portfolio should be a collection of photos that showcase the range of your abilities and best qualities.

Kind of a general answer I know but really it's the best one...You should include pictures that show your range of interests, fashion, editorial, commercial, casual, swimwear etc.  You should include a few headshots (black and white).  Photo size can vary but most models will use 8x10 prints in their portfolio.

    A few pointers:

-Your portfolio should never contain images from just one photogrpher.  Make sure you have a variety of photographers work in your book.  Each photographer will shoot you based on what they think are your best qualities (and everyone has a different opinion).  Including a variety of photographers will help ensure all your best qualities are featured (because you never know what the client is looking for).

-Avoid overly "s**y" photos in your portfolio.  A portfolio should be kept fairly commercial.  One or two may not be a bad thing to show a photographer you can play the part if the job requires it but keep the majority of your book pretty tame.  You can actually get bad marks by having a book that's too suggestive.

-Don't feel you have to buy an expensive book.  Some photographers or agencies will try and sell you a portfolio, a hugely overpriced case binder will silver edges, your name monogrammed on the front etc etc.  Clients don't care as much about what the book looks like - it's what's in the book that counts.  A 3-ring binder will do the job just fine.
