Question:

Modelling or University?

I’ve been offered this really good job in Paris modelling for a designer (cant say which) starting next year. But I’m wanting to go to university to study English literature. My boyfriend and I have applied for the same one and I’d planned everything out for university. And I don’t want to move to France and give up on him (long distance never works for me).

I’ve always dreamed of being a pro model. And I finally have the chance.

But I’d settled on this alternative and I’m starting to think this idea of university is better.

What should I do. My family said follow your heart. My boyfriend said follow my dreams. And the point is my heart and my dreams are in different places.

  1. University.....Modelling is just......don't do it lol

  2. well personally i think that you should go to college,, what if modeling doesn't work out in Paris than whats left of your education

  3. you could go to model now, and later on in life go to college., or you and your boyfriend could move to france together, and he can go to college there

  4. GO to  a university. modeling with only last you a couple years but u can go alot farther if u had a college degree.

  5. Well, you can go to college at anytime, or go to college in France.

You could always model for a semester, see if you like it, then make your decision about which you'd rather do.

  6. The smartest thing would be going to University,  but if you put it off for a  year or two will you really go back to school? Are you emotionally mature enough to go off to Paris?  Can you handle the pressure without becoming another statistic?  If you answered yes to these questions you should go and try it... it would be a great life experience.

Looks will fade and modeling isn't very secure as far as your future goes ... an education will give you a lifetime of security!

  7. Are you serious? You won't be hot and young forever, and I doubt you'd be as big as a famous supermodel... so a degree in SOMETHING is worth it in the long run. Sorry sweetie.

  8. that's a tough one, but i would say university...

  9. it's totally up to you, but you don't always get a modeling opportunity like that. if i were you, I'd let the university wait & go to Paris. if you commit, you & your boyfriend will last

  10. This is tough. Have you been accepted into that University? If not, than you should take that modeling job because if you or else your bf (or both of you) do not get into that college where will you be? Modeling is not a long term job. This is a once in a lifetime chance. I would agree to remain friends with your boyfriend, but if you will be away for more than a year of so, agree that dating other people is an option. When and if you get back to the U.S, you can get back together if it works out. Let us know how this works out.

  11. My daughter also had the opportunity to model, she choose education and now she is a doctor which will last forever.  Modeling is a difficult, cut throat profession.  Also, they don't make money for long, youth passes, and education will not!

    I say go to college!

  12. you should first go to university. if your that pretty that you got an offering by some designer in paris, then with a university education youll be doing even better. youll get more jobs then. but think about it, what if this wont work out for you? what are you gonna do after your done? the modeling and entertaniment busniess is tough. i say first go to university, then do modeling. if somthing backfires with that, then at least youll be educated enough to have a good job or career. and besides, whats gonna happen when your gonna be "too old" or "not young and hip" for modeling? that money wont last your forever.

  13. I would say that though this modeling gig sounds like a great opportunity for you, your heart isn't in it. You clearly don't want to go to France and leave your boyfriend, and a college degree is so very useful in life so it's not like you would be in bad shape at all with choosing that.

I think that if you truly want to do modeling, you might be able to find another offer in your future when it is more convenient. If you are a good modeling candidate, it won't be your last offer. Plus, you might discover a whole new dream for a career while you're in college. I though that I wanted to be a dentist going into college, but after my Freshman year decided it was totally wrong for me and switched majors to Visual Studies (Graphic Design and Animation). I'm so much happier now and making a 4.0 because I'm determined to get an amazing career with this degree.

It sounds like you have a lot going for you here... So why not trust in it and let the modeling come back to you after you've tried the college thing?

    Hope this helps. :)

  14. Modeling will only be there until the designer wants. Your knowledge will always be carry with you.

Think what would happened after a few years in working as a model. And then when something hapens and can't work as you planed.

  15. if you always dreamed to be a pro model fo for it .its sounds like you have been waiting for this moment. going to the university is another good idea. but you should do what you choose. remember this could be the only offer and you know they are hard to get

  16. Looks fade, knowledge is forever.

  17. I would recommend that you do modeling for couple of years…enjoy your life and fulfil your dreams…then you can go back to School…..It is your prime time, so enjoy yourself…Education is important but our society needs all skills to be fully capable including modeling….you will always excel where your passion is..

Again try it for a while (a year or two) and see where life takes you…

    Good luck!
