Modem Change?

I have a webstar 2000 cable internet modem and i connnect using an ip address117........ .Now the question is:

If i end by connnection with my cable company and use a modem that is still used to connect to internet but is someone else's house. Now will i be able to connect after ending my connection?

  1. Sure.  The ISP doesn't care what phone # you are dialing in on.

    your modem is also confiured to sync with ISP you may not know its addresses and user name password everythin is compared then only you are connected to internet otherwise you will be payin for everybody or others or you may use anybody else connection sittin in your home

  3. If you connect to the connection to the other persons house via a wired or wireless router/switch/hub you will be able to share the connection with them as all traffic would flow through their cable modem.

    Cable subscriptions are validated/tracked through the modems MAC address, if you take a modem with an active cable subscription and place it onto your cable line it should work as long as the cable signal itself hasn't been disconnected.

    However, if you attempt to put into place a cable modem that is not active/subscribed with any ISP onto your cable line it will likely not get a connection.
