Question:

Modem/Wireless Router Help?

Ok, this is quite complicated.

Last week, our internet was down due to a fault from Virgin (the ISP). At first, I thought it might have been a problem with the wireless router, so I turned everything off and on; also pressing the reset button on the back of the router (linksys WRT54G). I discovered after a while that it wasnt to do with the router so about three days later I called Virgin; who told me to connect the modem straight to the computer with an ethernet cable; effectively bypassing the wireless router. The internet then worked, but when I tried connecting the modem to the router it stopped working.

Finally, I connected the modem to my Playstation3 via ethernet (as obviously I couldnt connect wirelessly), but strangely I could not access the intenet or play online even though it was coneected directly from the modem.

I'm really stuck - is it the modem or the router that's the problem? Any help will be very appreciated and a best answer will definitely be picked!

  1. Ooooh a PS3...we are lucky :L

Anyway, after connecting your modem to the PS3 and it not working...does it then work again when you connect it to your computer..?

  2. try re-installing the wireless router software

  3. OK, it sounds like when you hit the reset button on the wireless router it either booted up in safe mode or has restored itself to factory settings. You need to connect your pc to it and log on to it and check the settings. If you took a backup of the config after you set it up the first time, you could restore this and it should be back to the way it was.
