Modem help?

My motorola SB5100 is having problems. It will occasionally reset itself for no reason and everything is plugged properly. Any advice? Thanks alot.

  2. Try unplugging it for 10 seconds and see if that fixes it.  It could be overheating too, make sure it's got enough ventelation and not sitting on carpet that obstructs any vents.  Maybe even set it at an angle so it has air circulation on the top, bottom, and 3 sides.

    If you're technical type person go to http://192.168.100.1 and see if it comes up with anything.  If so, look for Downstream Signal and it should be something like -5dbmv.  If it's below -15dbmv call the isp and have them fix the line to your house  Ideal is 0dbmv and acceptable is -12dbmv to 12dbmv.  Anything above 15dbmv or below -15dbmv and it won't work at all.

    If you're not a technical type, call your provider and ask them to check the signal.  It could be a bad modem too.

  3. turn it off and leave it off for two or three minutes then turn it back on and see if that helped

    if it doesn't give your internet provider a call and tell'em about ur problem
