I have a linksys wireless router and a motorola cable modem. When I plug the modem directly into my laptop I can get onto the internet, but, when I plug the modem into the router than then into the laptop, I can not get onto the internet. When I plug the modem directly into another PC I can not get onto the internet either. Internet only seems to work on the vista laptop without the router. How do I solve this issue? I've already tried every combination of restarting the modem and router that I can think of, and I've even replaced the modem with a new one which does the exact same thing as the old one.

  1. The computer is set up incorrectly.  The router may also be.  Call your provider's tech support and have them talk you through setting everything up.  Tech support is included in what you pay for every month.

  2. Plug the modem into the modem port on the router. Plug the computers in he computer ports, but not the last computer port, or the uplink port. If the computer or laptop is plugged into UPLINK, it won't work. Uplink may be one or four. try port 2.
