Question:

Modem will not recognize computer - Limited Connectivity

Hopefully someone on here will be able to enlighten me! I've spent the past two days trying to connect an inherited laptop to our wireless network. I've tried release/renew, setting up a static ip, winsock, making sure everything is enabled, resetting the modem, router, unplugging everything, etc, etc. Wireless card is functioning properly. I really feel like I've tried just about every option available besides the one that fixes it. The person I received this laptop from said she never had problems connecting to a network before. I can connect to the router fine, it's just not allowing me to connect to the internet. There is no problem connecting with the desktop also hooked up to the router. I also get the limited connectivity even when doing a wired connection directly from my modem to laptop. What gives? I appreciate any suggestions to a step I may be skipping to alleviate this giant headache I've acquired! Thanks!

  1. I suggest you try this links to fix your problem.

    good luck!

  2. First make sure your router has enough spare addresses in dhcp to add other machines. Make sure it is not running MAC address filtering. Get rid of the Winsock and all the other junk you have set up, these just make it worse. Ensure the wireless card switch is not turned off. Run the laptop connection program to search for your router SSID, set a matching encryption key and connect. Ensure your wireless card (and the lan card) do NOT have settings manually entered in tcp/ip properties or dns. It is NOT connecting correctly to the router, only its' wireless.
