Question:

Modern Bedroom incorporating dark wood antiques?

I have several dark-ish wood (mahogany colour) antiques eg a sewing & writing box, a dressing stand (mirror & draws to go on a table), an old sewing machine.

Now I want to redo my room and have a modern, fresh looking room, light & bright, ideally cream walls I think. I need to get new wardrobes, a desk, a bed, drawers but need ideas as to colours / styles so it's modern and works with the old stuff.

I don't want dark wood wardrobes to match the dark antiques or light wood which would clash with the antiques. Any ideas? I think a desk that's modern but fits into the scheme will be hard to find.

If you can show me any pictures for suggestions I'd appreciate it!

Thanks

  1. instead of cream walls, i would go with WHITE (:

it makes the room look so much more brighter.

also, try playing around with Sherwin Williams color visualizer, to get the right colour that will go with the dark wood antiques.

Maybe for the walls, or the furiture.

If you want your room to look very original, paint one wall light yellow, and then the opposite wall get a yellow flower canvas painting and put it on the wall.

    (:

yellow orange and bright pink cushions/duvets/etc would look brill!(:

    have a GREAT day hun

  2. First I would start with something you like, for example a color or a bedding set that has a pattern that you can base other things in the room around.  It is really hard to just start redecorating out of nowhere - pick an object etc.  For some inspiration check out http://www.visionbedding.com/Bedding_Gal... for unique and modern photographic and custom bedding designs - they will even let you custom create your own or help you find what you are looking for.  (It's been a great resource for me.)

Then match your design to a paint color (such as white, ecru, cream, etc) that complements it.  Once you have that picked out, you can begin looking for furniture, I would recommend white or a modern style dark wood furniture set.  Like a platform bed or clean lined dresser (check out http://www.modernfurniture.com/bedroom-&...  Just remember it's YOUR bedroom so pick out things that you like and that match your taste, don't try to design something outside of your comfort level.  Good Luck!
