Modern Warfare 3, will it be a step forward or will it fall behind as Battlefield 3 impresses?
Flame wars are nothing new to the world of gaming with the PlayStation and Xbox 360. FIFA and Pro Evolution Soccer, Gran Turismo and Forza are just a few of the many names that have been and continue to be hot topics that fall under that category.
Yet this article is not to add fuel to the argument of whether Battlefield 3 or Modern Warfare 3 is the better game. It would be unfair at this point seeing as how both games do not even have a playable demo out.
What gamers do have however, are some very impressive trailers for both titles and from these titles one can make a few early assumptions as to which game will emerge on top.
Taking Modern Warfare 3 for example, the trailers seem to suggest that the developers of Infinity Ward have taken it up a notch in terms of the scale and scope of the game with players expected to fight a seemingly unstoppable Russian force in four distinct
countries.
America, England, France and Germany are the four countries that players will be fighting for the fate of the free world in though one has to wonder if they were only chosen for marketing reasons as the ‘e’ can be replaced all so easily with a ‘3’.
To be honest, Spain and Portugal would have not have been bad choices either. Sadly their lack of ‘e’ in their name may very well have cost them a place in gaming history.
There have been numerous leaks regarding Modern Warfare ranging from the entire plot of the Single Player Campaign to a list of online multiplayer Perks and Kill streaks the game will feature.
What gave these reports credibility however, was the fact that everything they stated in terms of the single player campaign was confirmed in the Modern Warfare 3 trailer. That included the four countries that had been named, as well as the plot.
The developers did however give away one crucial bit of information, that Modern Warfare 3 would play on the same engine as its predecessor, Modern Warfare 2, with a few enhancements and tweaks.
In short, if a person was to call it Modern Warfare 2.5 they would not be too far away from the mark.
On the other hand, Battlefield 3 has stormed its way to prominence as it released four ‘fault line trailers’ and an awe inspiring ‘My Life’ trailer that had anyone who saw them with their jaw on the floor.
EA later revealed that the game would run on the FrostBite 2.0 engine as well as borrow the tool that developers are using in FIFA to make players more physical. That in itself would be enough to have the game jump to the top of everyone’s wish list.
However, no matter how good or bad a Call of Duty game is, one thing is for certain; Modern Warfare 3 will sell extremely well and most probably set a new record in sales for both the franchise as well as the industry.
The formula that Infinity Ward have perfected for MW3’s multiplayer is what has had it on the shelf of almost every gamer.
So come Christmas, no matter how good Battlefield 3 ends up being, Modern Warfare 3 will sell much better, just because it has the words Modern and Warfare in the title.
