Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3 fall behind Gears of War 3 on the Pre-Order Charts in America
For those who expected Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3 to top every chart, there is some disappointing news as the latest Pre-Order charts show that neither game is the most pre-ordered title in North America.
Gears of War 3
The Gears of War franchise is one of the gaming world’s finest and although it is exclusive to Microsoft’s Xbox 360, the game is one of the few games which its rival, PlayStation 3 fans, would love to get their hands on over any other Xbox title.
The series made Epic Games, its developer, a household name and earned Microsoft Game Studios, it’s Publisher, a fair amount of chow, with the first game selling over five-and-a-half-million copies to date.
Add in the fact that a majority of gamers in the United States prefer the Xbox as their console of choice and it really helps give everyone a clearer picture as to how Gears of War 3 is the most sought after game in that region.
With an improved multiplayer experience and the co-operative Horde mode, dubbed Horde 2.0, the game promises to be the best in the series yet. The trailers released for the game so far have been nothing short of spectacular and if they had debuted alongside
the Assassins Creed: Revelations trailer, the latter would have had a run for its money.
Though at the same time, there has been a serious leak at Epic Games with a majority of the game available to download after a group of hackers stole a large chunk of Gears of War 3 code. Yet, if anything, that only seems to have helped boost orders for
the game, which at the moment stands at a staggering total of 1,070,922 units ordered.
One can expect that figure to go even higher in the three months to the game's release.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
While some may have expected Activision’s star shooter to be number one, it turns out that the shooter has fallen short by quite some margin, only able to rake in 471,080 orders. The game is over half a million units short of Gears of War 3.
However at the same time, the Xbox 360 version of the game received 82,413 orders in the previous week, which was the highest for any game.
The Modern Warfare series is synonymous with the online first person shooter genre and the latest installment is looking to cement that position, though this time around it seems to be facing stiff competition from Electronic Arts’ Battlefield 3.
Battlefield 3
Electronic Arts’ return to the hardcore modern day first person shooter seems to have disappointed on the Pre-Order front raking in only 218,240 units up till this point.
The game that is strongly touted to go on and give the Call of Duty series a run for its money seems to be falling behind at the first hurdle. Despite an impressive array of trailers and a strong showing at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3),
the game could only amass 33,688 orders in the last month.
Though the lower pre-orders for both Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3 could be down to the fact that players are actually torn on which game to buy, something that has not happened for quite some time, and are simply waiting to see both games in full form
before they opt to decide.
Yet whatever the reason, it seems Gears of War 3 is well on its way to becoming the best selling game of all time, that is if it continues at the pace its going.
