Both of Activision’s Call of Duty titles top the Xbox LIVE weekly activity charts with FIFA 12 and Battlefield 3 not far behind.
Of the two consoles aimed at the hardcore gaming demographic, the Xbox 360 has sold more than the PlayStation 3. Many will argue that the reason for this is the one-year head start that Microsoft’s console had over their Sony counterpart, yet that is a debate
in and of itself.
Developers and publishers do take that factor into consideration when marketing their product and one statistic that everyone has an eye on is which games are being played the most on each console.
It turns out that for the previous week, and many weeks before that as well, that nearly everyone has been playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. No surprises there.
However, in second place is Call of Duty: Black Ops, a game that is over a year old. One can draw up a number of reasons for this but one cannot rule out the Zombies mode as the major reason.
FIFA 12 comes in at third and Battlefield 3 has made quite a name for itself on the Xbox 360 and is sure to be a much bigger threat to Call of Duty’s dominance next time around.
The Halo series is still popular among the Xbox gamers as Halo: Reach slots in at fifth place while another Call of Duty game, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, comes in at sixth, an astonishing feat considering how the game was released over two years ago.
Sam Shepard’s final chapter in the Mass Effect trilogy was the seventh most played game on the console for the previous week while a number of gamers are still enjoying themselves in the world of Skyrim as the latest entry in the Elder Scrolls series continues
to enchant.
NBA 2K12 and Marcus Fenix’s swansong in the Gears of War trilogy round up the top ten most played games on the Xbox 360 for the previous week.
One can expect the Call of Duty games to remain in top place for the next week yet as for the rest of the games, well, it’s anyone’s guess where they’ll end up in a week’s time.
