Infinity Ward are working to resolve the issue with the latest round of DLC as users complain that the content is locked to a single profile.
Downloadable Content is the industry’s most practiced method to keep a game fresh for gamers by releasing new content periodically as well as keeping a stream of revenue open for publishers beyond the point of sale of the original game.
Yet, there is a whole debate about how publishers should sell the entire package at once and not leech money out of their consumer base with post release content packs.
That debate aside it seems that the world’s bestselling video game encountered a problem when a large number of gamers complained that the content they downloaded was restricted to only one profile and could not be used by others on the same console.
Usually when DLC is downloaded on a console it is available for use by multiple users provided they are on the same console.
Infinity Ward, the developers behind the game claim that the lock was not intentional and that they are working on a patch to rectify the situation and make it available for all users on the same console.
Content locking is nothing new yet fans were outraged as the terms and conditions stipulated that, “You (the user) can use this item on the first Xbox 360 console you downloaded it to. Access to this item will also be granted to all users on this first console.
So one can imagine the outrage across the Xbox Call of Duty ‘gamerbase’ when that did not turn out to be the case.
Robert Bowling, the creative strategist for Infinity Ward, and the person many associate the Call of Duty series with was on hand to comment on the situation and calm the angry mob. He stated that the content lock was not intentional and that they were working on a remedy for the situation.
“This (content lock) is unintentional and we will work to get an update out as soon as possible that corrects this issue and allows you to continue to enjoy the new maps”.
