Modern Warfare 3 sells almost 10-million units on its first day, breaks industry record!
The latest figures from various sources have placed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’s opening day sales over the 9-million units sold mark, which when confirmed, will be a new record for the Interactive Entertainment Industry.
While everyone expected Activision’s latest iteration of the Modern Warfare series to sell extremely well, the fact that the estimates have put Modern Warfare 3’s opening day sales at the 9.3-million units sold mark is more than just a little impressive.
In fact, the 33% increase from the 7-million units sold for Call of Duty: Black Ops on its opening day is something not many would have predicted, but few would be confident on its actually happening.
Again, the figures are not confirmed as yet with a number of sources claiming a number of different figures however, almost all agree that Modern Warfare 3 has recorded the best opening day sales for any video game in history.
To put things into perspective, Call of Duty: Black Ops, which was released the same time last year, managed to amass $650-million in its opening five days. The figure was the record for any entertainment product, including movies and music.
This means that Modern Warfare 3 has not only shattered that record but done it by some margin. At bettor.com we like to put our skills in mathematics to use, in order to help our readers realize just how big some of the numbers and figures actually are.
So take 9.3-million units, which were sold, and multiply it by $60, which is the average price of a copy of Modern Warfare 3 and the opening day revenue that Activision have raked in stands at a staggering $558-million.
If that does not make one’s eyes pop out of their sockets than it is hard to imagine anything that will. An even more impressive statistic is the fact that the sales are under $100-million of the opening five days sales record. With four days to go for that,
it seems that Modern Warfare 3 will easily surpass that figure.
Activison, the game’s publisher did not comment on the sales, yet they did imply that Modern Warfare 3 sold more than Call of Duty: Black Ops when they stated, “the amount of players online is even higher than what it was this time last year for Black Ops.”
For those readers who do not understand what that means, well it is Activision’s way of saying that Modern Warfare 3 sold more than Black Ops, without actually saying it.
One can expect the game to continue to sell impressively and is well on its way to becoming the best selling game and entertainment product of all time!
