  1. harry potters an example because

its in the preasent and fiction

  2. Modern (with a capital M) is fiction, usually written between 1900-1945.

The Modern Period of Literature and Art share common themes such as disillusionment, the replacement of the naturalistic and spiritualistic with the Mechanistic and the Materialistic, failure of tradition, skepticism of authority, disconnectedness.

Great Modern Works include: Hemingway's "The Sun Also Rises,"  Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby, James Joyce's "Ulysses."

    Modern Fiction is important because:

    1.  Use of psychoanalysis/unconscious:  As the modernists were writing, psychology was a brand new field of study.  Freud had only recently introduced the concept of the unconscious, a staple of Modern Fiction used most notably in "Ulysses."

    2. The modernist period also brought changes to the portrayal of gender roles and especially to women's role in society.  Take Brett from "The Sun Also Rises."  She is not the least bit "old-fashioned."  She parties hard, drinks, is promiscuous and even has her hair cut short (like a man's), yet she is undeniably feminine.

Virginia Woolf, T. S. Eliot, Gertrude Stein, H.D., Ezra Pound, Mina Loy, James Joyce, William Faulkner, Ernest Hemingway, Rainer Maria Rilke, Franz Kafka, Robert Musil, Joseph Conrad, Andrei Bely, W. B. Yeats, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Luigi Pirandello, D. H. Lawrence, Katherine Mansfield, Jaroslav Hašek, Samuel Beckett, Menno ter Braak, Marcel Proust, Mikhail Bulgakov, Robert Frost and Boris Pasternak.

  4. Modern fiction is fiction that takes place in the present time.

Examples: Anything that takes place in the present. There are many, many books that take place in the present time.

Yes, I think modern fiction is important because many readers can relate to it, it is more exciting to read than non-fiction novels, and it can serve as a time line for people of the next generation. Readers 50 years from now will get to read about the kind of life we live now.
