Modernice a brick fire place!?

the house was built in 1982 and we have a brick fire place. pleeeease tell me some ideas to up date

it!

Just painting a fireplace will update the look. An off white or soft shade is best, to compliment the room's wall color.

eighties designs were pretty bad to say the least. seems everything was drab colors. lotsa dark browns.  well you can reface with tile, paint the brick a brighter color updating the mantle or the brick is prolly veneer and not structural. tear it off leaving the firebox untouched and have some brickies come in with modern looking brick and VIOLA!  it wont be cheap but you dont have to look at the crappy fireplace anymore.
