Modi counsel tries out-of-court settlement with BCCI
In a surprising move, the Lalit Modi legal counsel reportedly said in the Supreme Court of India that the two sides were trying to resolve the Modi versus Indian Premier League case amicably.

However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s counsel, advocates CS Sundaram and Mukul Rohatgi denied that any such thing had transpired between the two parties and said that they had no intentions of an out-of-court settlement.

However, Modi’s counsel Ram Jethmalani then clarified that he was trying to bring truce at his level in order for the bench to adjourn the case by seven days.

It was reported in leading newspapers in India that this could be a sign of Modi wanting to end the proceedings as soon as possible given that he has now had Enforcement Directorate putting pressure on him to return back to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 and face criminal charges.

According to some of the media reports, the BCCI said that patch-up topic had been raised by Jethmalani in a meeting with Arun Jaitley on Wednesday. Jaitley and Jethmalani had met up to discuss another case involving the former’s political party-mate http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Amit-c44003 Shah
and the Modi-BCCI topic came up as a passing mention.

Jaitley is said to have told Jethmalani that only the BCCI president http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shashank-Manohar-c89791 could decide on the issue.

BCCI’s legal counsel Sundaram and Rohatgi said that there was no truth in the board wanting an out of court settlement and that the case was still on.

The Supreme Court had also asked the board whether it would be possible for the trio of Jaitley, Chirayu Amin and Jyotiraditya Scindia, the members of the disciplinary committee to excuse themselves from meetings that would act on the inquiry report against
the former IPL chief Modi.

Earlier, the BCCI had informed the Supreme Court that given that the disciplinary hearing against Modi had reached an advanced stage, it would not be possible to change the committee.
