  1. There's a poem by T. S. Eliot that speaks of a "maculate giraffe." "Maculate" means "spotted."

    There's a poem by W. H. Auden that speaks of "whorled, unsubtle ears." "Unsubtle" is really striking.

    I heard a child once say that his glass of ginger ale was "prickly." I thought that was unlikely, unexpected, and yet right.
