Modifying phase.........

Has anyone been through some kind of tuning phase with modifying your car, for example I just recently bought a air intake for my 01 honda accord 5-speed, I like the sound and throttle response and painted my hubcaps black. Im not a ricer, i know whats worth modifying and what not. But I have thoughts why am I doing this when this car has no problems, its working fine, maybe little minor issues but that normal for any car. Im only 18 and enjoy the tuner world. A good answer would be nice.

Thanks

  1. yeah, I went threw that phase also. Intresting thing is "from what i have seen is" most people take a car and spend money on it, buy expensive stuff for it, like nice wheels, and intakes, etc.. it takes them years right. Well after all that work they end up selling. I never understood that. Right now, i like taking a riced out beater, and bringing it back to stock form all the way. Parts are cheap because guys are parting out there cars.

  2. I'm 22, and I've been doing if for a while... Most of the people who start tunning make tons of expensive mistakes. The advice I can give you is "planing". First, is not only matter of buying diferent parts, those parts have to be made to work together... I've friends that have spent 10K on an 00' Si and I'm still right there with them whithout to many things.

What you should do is thinks, with somebody that knows, which things would you like all of it. So then you can go step by step how you planed it or better buy a whole kit (stage 1 o 2 or......) made to work together.

You can do intake exaust of the same brand, then maybe camshafts, high comp pistons, working head and pistons... etc. if you like driving, work the suspension first.

  3. I'm 19 and going to a auto tec school and let me say their is nothing wrong with modding your car when nothing is wrong. its a passion to go faster

  4. Yeah, started as soon as I learned my engine block was good for 1500hp+ and stock internals were good for 400hp or so.

Still not that far along but it's because of minor mechanical problems and replacing a ton of things that are looking like they are going to break.

Either way my car still get respect on the internet despite the only real power mod so far being an intake. I'm hoping for alot more in the near future though.
