Modifying something patented that is already manufactured?

is it against the law if i use just the internals of a company's product and add something to it to make it better and change how its case looks to make it prettier and sell it. (not my idea just kind of an example of what im talking about, i take a brand new ipod, take it apart, throw its case away, and add a transistor to the circuit board that makes it better and then create a completely different case) also i wouldnt sell it as my own i would sell it as a modified whatever the product is
