Tottenham Hotspur have finally agreed to sell midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luka-Modric-c22857 to Spanish giants Real Madrid, after an official announcement on their club website.
The summer’s longest running transfer saga has come to a close after the Croatian midfielder’s exit was confirmed by the North London club on their official club website.
Modric has been linked with a number of clubs for the past two seasons. The player was tipped to join http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 two seasons ago, with the Blues reportedly having put in an astounding £50 million bid for the midfielder’s services.
Tottenham were however firm in their resolve to hold on to Modric and would not let any offer change their mind. Modric was forced to stay at White Hart Lane and a move never materialized.
This summer, the likes of Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid entered the fray as the midfielder started attracting the attention of Europe’s elite clubs. The player’s performances for his national side in the Euro 2012 tournament back
in June were impressive and his desire to move away from White Hart Lane had alerted many clubs.
Tottenham had revealed that they will let their star player leave only for the right price, and put a £40 million price tag on his head. Madrid were favourites in landing the player as Modric had himself stated his preference for them.
The price was a major problem in the transfer as Madrid did not value Modric that high. Tottenham refused to lower their valuation, and the transfer got delayed. It looked like the Croatian would be unable to leave White Hart Lane for the third consecutive
season.
Now, Tottenham have finally announced the sale of their coveted midfielder in a club statement which read:
"The club can announce that it has signed a partnership agreement with Real Madrid FC and reached agreement for the transfer of Luka Modric, subject to medical, to the Spanish club.”
"The partnership agreement will see the two clubs working together in respect of players, coaching, best practices and commercial relationships."
Sources in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 report that the player’s transfer is subject to a medical and will see Tottenham earn £33 million for his sale.
