Tottenham Hotspur have stated that Luka Modric has reported for training with the team on Monday at the Spurs Lodge in London, but has not travelled with the squad for their http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/United-States-c3034 tour.
Modric had been fined for failing to report for training with the club amid speculation linking him with an exit from White Hart Lane, with Spanish giants Real Madrid favourites for the player’s signatures.
The Croatian was also fined for refusing to travel with the Spurs squad as they left for their pre-season tour of the United States. The club had ordered him to report back to training and were willing to fine him a third time, which would have led to a
total amount of £160,000.
A statement was released yesterday on the club’s official website which read:
"The club can confirm http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luka-Modric-c22857 has returned to training today (Monday) at Spurs Lodge. The coaching staff will now determine the remainder of his pre-season preparation."
Modric has stated his desire to leave Spurs time and time again, pointing out the lack of Champions League football as the main reason behind his decision. He has remained faithful to the club for a while now despite interest from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 last season, which
was then managed by current Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas.
Tottenham revealed last week that they are willing to sell the Croatian midfielder only if interested clubs can match the asking price, which is a figure of £40 million. Manchester United and French club Paris Saint-Germain are also said to be interested
in the play maker
Manager Andre Villas-Boas explained the situation talking to the press during Spurs’ pre-season tour:
"There are clubs interested in him but we have to hold on to our values and our rights and at the moment the situation for Luka is he is under club discipline. Unfortunately for him he's going to have to be fined for not being present.”
Villas-Boas has been a long term admirer of Modric but admitted that he was disappointed by his actions. He criticised Modric’s behaviour, labelling it as ‘unprofessional’ and said that he hopes that the situation can be resolved as soon as possible in a
manner which is favourable for all parties concerned.
