Moggi predicts Inter and Juventus will fail
Luciano Moggi, the Juventus' former general manager, has said that Roma and Milan are favourites to win this year's Serie A title.
Between 1994 and 2006, Juventus reached extraordinary success under Moggi.
During those years, the club won five Scudetti for Juventus (one of which was revoked after the 2006 Calciopoli scandal), one Champions League title and one Coppa Italia trophy.
The controversial Moggi, who is serving a lifetime ban from football following allegations concerning match-fixing while at the Turin club, has now made some early predictions for the outcome of this year's Serie A.
After Juventus' 3-3 draw with Sampdoria on Sunday, Moggi predicted that the club will finish third in the league. "Juventus' defence was full of holes, especially on the flanks," he told Gold TV. "I think [Marco] Motta will have nightmares about [Antonio] Cassano for a long time. There is a lack of quality in midfield. [Milos] Krasic did ok. The game on Sunday showed Juventus are on Sampdoria's level."
This summer's transfer window saw the departure of several midfielders from Turin's Stadio Olimpico, among them Christian Poulsen, Diego Ribas da Cunha and Mauro Camoranesi.
While Alberto Aquilani was brought in from Liverpool on a loan deal, many have doubted whether Juventus' new midfield would be able to perform at such a high level.
Inter doomed without Mourinho
Moggi also said that Inter, whose treble-winning coach, Jose Mourinho, joined Real Madrid this summer, will not be able to challenge for the league title under new manager Rafael Benitez. Inter narrowly defeated Udinese on Saturday.
"The win against Udinese shows that it will be hard for Inter to confirm themselves this year, and [Diego] Milito doesn't seem the same following last season's excellent run... What's missing the most compared to last year is Mourinho."
Instead of Inter and Juventus, Moggi said he believes Roma and AC Milan will fight for the domestic title this season, despite both sides suffering resounding defeats by supposedly inferior teams this weekend.
"I think the Scudetto race will be equal with Roma and Milan and I wouldn't be surprised if Inter finish third."
