Mohamad Arif Abdul Latif beats Suppanyu Avihingsanon in qualifying round battle of Indonesia Open
Malaysia’s young shuttler Mohamad Arif Abdul Latif put up superb show of attacking badminton and overpowered Thailand’s Suppanyu Avihingsanon in Men’s Singles qualifying round of Indonesia Open Premier Super Series 2012 on Tuesday, June 12, in Indonesia.
The young Malaysian showed his aggression in the court throughout the contest and emerged as the winner against his spirited Thai challenger by remaining focused in the court for three games.
Arif showed his class and ousted Suppanyu by ending the entertaining contest in rubber games by consuming 54 minutes in the court.
In the meanwhile, Suppanyu failed to find a good start but fought back and levelled the match by taking the second game. However, he could not maintain his focus in the game and lost to his Malaysian rival in three games with a reasonable margin.
In the first game, Arif was in commanding position as he played with precision but failed to take a comfortable lead until the break as his opponent was also positive in the court.
However, after the mid-game interval, Arif played different badminton as he took the bird early and manipulated all loopholes of his Thai opponent by working well at net. He was in complete control and took the game with a huge margin of 21-14.
In the following set, Suppanyu showed his remarkable skills and managed to remain dominant in the opening half of the set.
However, Arif managed to level the score at 13-13 but failed to live up to expectations as he could not dominate the pace and eventually lost the set with a four-point deficit of 17-21.
In the final game, Suppanyu again found an impressive start and took an early lead but failed to remain consistent as his Malaysian rival played flawless badminton and levelled the score at 8-8.
Until the mid-game interval, Arif was slightly ahead of his Thai opponent on the score board.
After the break, Arif geared up his speed and executed powerful shots in all areas of his rival’s court and remained successful in finishing up the deciding game with a superb margin of 21-14.
Arif won this Men’s Singles qualifying round battle in 54 minutes with a superb 21-14, 17-21 and 21-14 score on the board.
