Mohamad Arif Abdul Latif confident to earn points for Malaysia in Thomas Cup Preliminary Round
Malaysia’s talented back-up shuttler Mohamad Arif Abdul Latif, who missed his flight to Macau and departed after four hours is confident to prove his worth and earn precious point for his country in the Thomas Cup Preliminary Round, which is in progress in Macau.
Arif, who is placed at number 52 in Men’s Singles world rankings, has been playing convincing badminton for the last one year. He has shown visible improvement in his standard of play and is ready to shine in the qualifying matches of Thomas Cup Finals.
He is ready to take the challenge by playing in the third Men’s Singles fight against South Korea, if he finds a chance to compete.
Arif missed his flight and had to wait for four hours to catch another flight to Macau. While talking about this little mishap, Arif said that it happened to him for the first time.
He said, “This is the first time I am missing my flight but it won't happen again. I have already gone through some anxious moments and I want to focus on contributing a point for Malaysia should I play against South Korea.”
While talking about his possible clash against Korea’s Hong Ji Hoon, the Malaysian shuttler said that he has already defeated the Korean and he is confident to do it again if both shuttlers face each other in the match.
Arif said, "I have beaten Hong Ji Hoon once and I have a chance. But we don't know if he will play and the decision will come from the coaches if I play against Hong Kong on Tuesday (tomorrow) or South Korea.”
The spirited Arif wants to win in the qualifying match against South Korea as this victory will boost his confidence in the upcoming tournaments.
He was a part of national squad in the 2008 Thomas Cup but could not play any match. Now he is optimistic that if he gets a chance to play against Korean opponent, he will deliver his maximum and will earn the precious point for his country.
Malaysian will meet South Korea in the preliminary round clash on Wednesday, February 15.
