Mohamad Rizki, Wulan Sari advance into pre quarter-finals of 2012 Singapore International Series
Indonesia’s Mohamad Rizki Dely Nugraha-Wulan Sari Sri thrashed Yew Sin Ong-Joyce Wai Chi Choong in their opening match and marched into pre quarter-finals of Li-Ning Singapore International Series on August 15, 2012.
This showdown lasted for 40 minutes before getting resolved with final result of 15-21, 21-12 and 24-22.
The victorious duo displayed impressive fighting spirit and survived this battle despite losing in the opening game.
On the other hand, the Malaysian pair squandered their early advantage and surrendered tamely in ending two sets.
Yew Sin and Joyce Wai kick-started their campaign by clinching first match point with a distinctive difference. They laid the foundation of their supremacy straight away in the beginning and maintained their upper hand all the way to final moments.
They prevailed in couple of uninterrupted rallies and gained a respectable position on the points table. This initial advantage helped them to finish first half as leading contenders with a decent total of 11.
The Indonesian campaigners made every effort to come out of this deficit but they failed to hit the mark in later part of the game. They gave up this futile exercise after reading 15-21 score on the board.
However, Mohamad Rizki and Wulan Sari did not remain at the lower end permanently as they managed to rise from the dust and counter-balanced the situation in the very next game.
This time they played with authoritative approach and enthralled their rivals with a brisk attack. They showed superb coordination and doubled the trouble for opposing team by raising their lead before the mid-game break.
After the interval, the partnership of Rizki and Wulan looked at its best as they completely ruled the court and pushed their challengers into dark with a dazzling performance of 21-12.
There was lot of fireworks expected in the decider as both teams were just one knock away either from next round entry or an immediate exit.
They put all in their possession to avoid a disgraceful farewell. They snapped each other’s heels and match kept swinging between them all the way to game point situation.
Finally, Rizki-Wulan tipped the scale in their favour with a decisive figure of 24-22 and setup pre quarter-final clash with Taipei couple Min Hao Tseng-Chia Wen Lai.
