Mohammad Aamer and Umar Akmal; Hotcakes for English counties
Although the Pakistani youngsters have not yet shown their full strength in the England tour however they have become hotcakes for the English counties. A number of counties have shown their interest in signing contracts with a couple brilliant youngsters for the next season of county cricket. The 2011 season of county cricket would start in April next year.
Counties are having their eyes on the promising young talent of the new-look Pakistan team, the teenage pace sensation Mohammad Aamer and the 20 years old pugnacious Umar Akmal. Management of number of counties is keen to hire the duo for their 2011 season.
Reliable sources in the Pakistan cricket team have revealed that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kent-c802 have contacted the imposing batsman across all the cricket formats, Umar Akmal and have expressed their wish to sign a long term contract with the young talent. One of the Akmal’s teammates also confirmed that various other counties are also interested to have the aggressive batsman in their side.
“The counties have expressed a desire to hire Umar. They are interested to give him a longer contract.” revealed the Pakistani player who requested not to disclose his name.
The source further added that Umar has not yet decided whether to play the county cricket in the next season or not. The batsman is yet to make up his mind in this regard. He is focusing on his national duties and has no time to think about the counties.
“He is not sure at the moment whether he is interested in playing for the county. Umar is totally focussing on playing for the country and as such has no time to decide on his association with the counties,” the hidden sources told while talking to the media on Thursday.
Though the youngest of Akmal brothers failed to impress the audience in the first innings of the on-going Lord’s Test, but his previous match winning performances for Pakistan, particularly in the shorter formats of cricket, have made him a preferred pick.
Mohammad Aamer is the other name English counties are interested in. “There are more than one county who are interested in hiring the young fast bowler. However, even Aamer is not certain whether he will get Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) permission to play for counties,” said the teammate of Aamer and Umar.
The Pakistan cricket board - keeping in mind the injury prone natures of its fast bowlers - has been reluctant in the recent times in permitting them to play the exhaustive county cricket. PCB wants its batsmen get maximum exposure through the county cricket so it issues the NOC (No Objection Certificate) to the batsmen without any hesitance but the policy of PCB is different as far as the bowling department is concerned.
Apparently the Pakistan cricket team has no national commitment until next summer so most of the cricketers are interested in playing county cricket in England during the lean period. The sources have revealed that most of the Pakistani players are busy in negotiating with the counties to get the best deal.
The death over sensation of T20, Umar Gul has also shown his intent of playing county cricket in the next season. In an interview with a leading newspaper of Pakistan Gul said that these days his complete focus is on the Pakistan cricket but once he would be done with the national duties this season he would definitely look for the best possible option.
