Mohammad Ahsan – Bona Septano successfully defend their title at the Indonesia Open GP Gold
Indonesia’s elevated shuttlers, Mohammad Ahsan and Bona Septano successfully defended their Men’s Doubles title as they won the crown at the 2011 Indonesia Open GP Gold, on Sunday, October 2, in East Kalimantan, Indonesia.
Ahsan and Septano are currently enjoying Number Six position in the Men’s Doubles world rankings. They defeated World Number 14 pair of Kenichi Hayakawa and Hiroyuki Endo of Japan in impressive fashion.
The higher ranked Indonesians did not disappoint the local crowd as they played terrific badminton against the visitors and showed their class in the title match. The home fans could not have asked for a better performance as the duo crushed the Japanese
pair in straight games with a convincing margin.
The Indonesians opened their journey against the Japanese duo in a surprising manner as they were in a hurry to finish up the fight. Their fast and attacking game spared no chance for the Japanese pair to dominate the rallies. Ahsan and Septano established
a comfortable lead in the opening half of the set.
The Indonesians played at the same speed after the interval and continued putting pressure on their rivals in the whole set. They bagged the first set of the title match with a one-sided score of 21-13.
It was the same story in the second game as Ahsan and Septano set up an early lead and remained successful in maintaining it throughout the set. The Indonesians were just uncontrollable for the Japanese shuttlers, who played a shaky game in the whole match.
Ahsan and Septano finished the second game with the difference of 21-14. The straight-set match ended with a 21-13 and 21-14 figure on the score board.
After grabbing the title for the second consecutive time, Ahsan said, “We’re glad to defend our title here and also win our first trophy this season. I think the Japanese didn’t play well today.”
Victory at home will be a big boost for their confidence and will help the pair to produce good results in the upcoming 2011 Denmark Open Premier Super Series, which will take place at Odense, Denmark, from October 18-23.
