Mohammad Akram, Pakistan’s newly appointed bowling coach, believes that his experience of playing international cricket as well as domestic sport in Pakistan and England is going to help him enhance the skills of the country’s young speedsters.
The former Test cricketer was handed over the job on Friday and will immediately take charge in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, with the first
ODI scheduled to be played on August 28, at Sharjah.
Pakistan’s previous bowling coach, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Aaqib-Javed-c41431, resigned earlier this year during the series against England as he was offered a role with UAE cricket.
Since the ban imposed on http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Aizaz-Cheema-c961, who were expected to take the responsibility on their shoulders, have been too inconsistent
for the management’s liking.
There has been some criticism on Akram’s appointment because of his lack of experience as a coach. The former cricketer from Islamabad however, thinks that he has a lot of practical knowledge, which matters more in cricket.
"I have played ample cricket, and learnt a lot from the ground and sitting out on the bench," Akram said. "Cricket ultimately can't be played on laptops; it can only be played in ground."
The 37-year-old bowling coach has played 125 first-class matches, primarily in Pakistan and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013. Akram thinks that he understands the sporting culture and the conditions of the country, which should help him get through to the
players.
Akram is happy with the contract given to him by the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board and is geared up for the challenge.
"I [have a lot missing] from my CV but I have something that others don't have - I am a Pakistani, have played cricket around the country from Rawalpindi to Bahawalpur and all over, understand the cricket, know the problems and what
has to be done. I need a little time to adjust and 12 months is a lot of time," he added.
