Mohammad Amin Rahim and Azreen Rizal fit for four-nation tournament in Moscow: Hockey News
Mohammad Amin Rahim and Azreen Rizal Nasir, the key defenders in the national hockey side of Malaysia, have fully recovered from their injuries and will be part of the national side in a four-nation tournament, which will be held from June 22-26 in Moscow,
Russia.
Amin, the penalty corner specialist of the national hockey side, and Azreen had not been picked in the national squad for the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup Hockey Tournament, which was held last month in Ipoh, Malaysia. Both the defenders had been suffering from
serious knee injuries, due to which they could not participate in the tournament.
Meanwhile the selection of Mohammad Madzli Ikmar, the captain of the team, is still in doubt due to the reason of his severe injury, which he had received in a match against Australia in the recently held Azlan Shah tournament in Malaysia.
Ikmar had to suffer from a fracture in his cheek bone and after that he could not play the rest of the tournament. Malaysia finished at the last spot in the tournament.
George Koshy, the manager of Malaysia’s national hockey team, stated that they would analyse the situation on the fitness of Ikmar before taking any decision. He also told that 23 players are the part of training squad from which 20 players will be selected
for the upcoming four-nation tournament and for some friendly matches against European nations.
Two of the Malaysian forward-line players, midfielder, Mohammad Shukri Mutalib and forward, Faizal Saari, have already travelled to Australia last week. They will represent Southern Hotshot in the Australian League. So Malaysia will not have the services
of these two players in the four-nation tournament in Moscow in which Russia, Ukraine and South Africa will be in front of them.
The Malaysian side will also play two friendly matches against Netherlands on June 17 and 18 and one friendly match against Russia on June 20 prior to the four-nation tournament. The team will also play four friendly matches in Spain in the first week of
July. Two of the four matches will be played against the national team and the other two against their Under-21 side.
