Mohammad Amir bags five as England wobble
Mohammad Amir ran through the English batting on the second morning of the fourth Test match played at Lord’s to bag his first ever five-wicket haul at Lord’s. This was his third five-wicket haul in his very short career that has seen him play only 14 Test matches so far.
England had begun the second day of the fourth Test match at 39/1 and with the conditions looking the way they were, one was almost certain that England would have some difficulties in facing up to the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 seam bowlers. However, the capitulation was so drastic that it was hard to believe that a team which had taken a 2-0 lead in the series could collapse so rapidly.
Alastair Cook, who had returned back to form in the previous game with a century, was the first man to depart in the day, when he nicked one off Amir to the wicket-keeper. The ball was delivered straight and just managed to take an edge after Cook had had no option but to play at it.
This was followed by a first-ball duck for Kevin Pietersen, after he went for an expansive drive off the same bowler. Wicket number three for Amir came in form of Paul Collingwood after the ball nipped back into the batsman and hit him on his pad.
Paul Collingwood was then declared not-out by the umpire, but the Pakistanis asked for a review and the decision went in Amir’s favour. Collingwood also scored a duck, only to be followed by Eoin Morgan for another duck – only the sixth time in the history of Test cricket that numbers four, five and six have all scored ducks. England were 47/5.
When Amir was removed from the attack, the English batting stuck it out there for good stand between Jonathon Trott and Matt Prior. However, immediately after the lunch break, Amir had his fifth wicket when Prior edged it to the wicket-keeper.
With this five-wicket haul, Amir also got his name on the ‘board’ at Lord’s which has all the players’ names who have either scored a century or scalped a five-wicket haul.
