Mohammad Amir confirms links with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mazhar-c75448 Majeed
The disgraced Pakistani pacer Mohammad Amir has acknowledged the fact that he had ties with the bookie/player’s agent Mazhar Majeed, but refused to have ever been involved in any wrong doings with the said bookie.
Amir said that he has never had secret meetings with Majeed, but has had acquaintance with him for almost a year. Amir said that he could never think of losing a game for the sake of money. He claimed that he has always performed to the best of his abilities
while playing for the national side.
However, Amir cannot be let off the hook by his acceptance of knowing Mazhar Majeed, a player of his stature should never have had any contacts with a suspected character such as Majeed.
Amir along with Mohammad Asif and Salman Butt has been accused of spot-fixing on the behest of Mazhar Majeed. The fiasco came into prominence this year when Pakistan was touring England.
A local British tabloid “News of the world” broke this news and then provided documented evidence to the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board took immediate action against the players by suspending them from taking part in the remaining matches of the
tour.
The International Cricket Council later suspended the players from participating in any format of the game. This put the future of the players in doubt.
The trio filed an appeal against their suspension which was rejected by the ICC after a hearing in Dubai. The players were highly disappointed at the ICC and then they retaliated by giving harsh statements against the cricket’s governing body, accusing it
of being biased and targeting the players for their nationality.
The Pakistan Cricket Board took strong notice of this and suspended the central contracts of the players and restricted them from using cricket board’s facilities. The chairman Pakistan Cricket Board http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128 has been very clear from day one that the players
involved in corruption will not receive any support from the board for getting their names cleared.
Amir’s this latest statement shows that the players did have some links with the suspected bookie which will be an Achilles heel for the players in their case against the suspension.
