http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Amir-c76675 could have become the best bowler in the world, feels Zaka Ashraf – Cricket News Update
Chairman of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board (PCB), Zaka Ashraf has come out in support of the banned young fast bowler, Mohammad Amir and feels that the five-year ban on such a talented cricketer is not fair.
Amir was found involved in the spot-fixing controversy during the tour of England in 2010. He along with the then captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Asif-c1993 are banned from all forms of competitive cricket for varying periods.
The left-arm fast bowler came through the ranks of junior cricket in the country and was always considered a great talent. He emerged into the scene of international cricket during the ICC World T20 2009 held in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 and straight-away made an impression
at the highest stage of the game.
Quite ironically, Amir was named the Player of the Series in the last series he played. Most of the cricket analysts and former legends like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Anthony-Holding-c75756 rated him very high and predicted a great future for him before the scandal.
A number of former cricketers including former English captain, Michael Atherton has also urged the world’s governing body of cricket to reconsider the lengthy ban on Amir.
PCB held a meeting with the young fast bowler recently. While speaking to Pakpassion, Ashraf expressed that Amir was trapped in this scandal and it is a pity that cricket lost such an immense talent.
According to the ban imposed by the International Cricket Council (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625), the banned trio cannot even use the practice facilities of PCB or the National Cricket Academy. The Chairman PCB is not happy with the fact that his board cannot even help Amir to rehabilitate.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashraf-c46397 said, “Amir was very apologetic at the meeting we had with him and spoke of how he was trapped into spot fixing. He is such a wonderful young talent that has been wasted and it’s such a shame that he cannot even use our practice facilities.”
Chairman PCB is of the opinion that Amir had the ability to conquer the world of cricket through his bowling but the controversy halted his career. Ashraf urged the cricket authorities to give Amir another chance to start his career all over again.
“Coming from such a remote village Amir could have become the best bowler in the world. I think the 5 year ban is too harsh and we should not let this young boy’s career be ruined, we should all try to help him and understand that he was trapped into getting
involved in spot fixing,” he added.
Amir has already spent three months in jail and has been out of international cricket for almost a year and a half. It is about time that ICC reconsiders its decision because Amir was a teenager when he committed that mistake.
