http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Amir-c76675 due for questioning: Pakistan Cricket Board – Cricket News Update
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board has expressed the intent to question pacer Mohammad Amir, who returned to Pakistan early Sunday morning after being released from jail in England, where he was serving his prison sentence following his conviction in a spot-fixing
incident late last year.
“We will be meeting with Amir when he returns home. We want to have a face to face talk with him on different issues relating to the spot-fixing scandal,” said Subhan Ahmad, the chief operating officer of the PCB.
The promising young pacer became embroiled in the spot-fixing controversy, and was accused of having accepted payments in order to bowl deliberate no-balls during a Test match against England at Lord’s in August 2010.
He was handed a 5-year ban from cricket by an http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 tribunal in February 2011, and after pleading guilty, was sentenced to 6 months in prison by the Southwark Crown Court in November 2011.
Following his 3-month-early release from the Portland Young Offenders Institution in Dorset earlier this month, and his return to Pakistan today, the PCB has confirmed that the 19-year-old will be interviewed by the board regarding the scandalous incident.
“Obviously we will be meeting him to find out the root cause of the spot-fixing issue in Pakistan cricket," Subhan Ahmad confirmed. "We will talk to him to find out how and why he got involved in this corruption. Initially he was not very honest with us
so we need to ask him questions. We also want to discuss his rehabilitation with him.”
In addition to the questioning, the PCB also intends to rehabilitate the young player, and guide him back to the national squad once he has served the terms of his ban.
The PCB's Director of Training and Education, Wasim Bari, claimed that the board was keen on hearing Amir’s side of the story. PCB chairman, Zaka http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashraf-c46397, stated that the loss of a talent like Amir was a huge setback for the team, saying the young pacer will
be welcomed back into the squad once the 5-year term of his ban, which ends in September 2015, is over.
