Mohammad Amir optimistic about positive outcome as the make or break hearing gets underway in Doha
As the make or break hearing of Pakistan’s trio, alleged of being involved in spot-fixing conspiracy starts in Doha, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 is optimistic about the upshot of the hearing.
Amir and his lawyer are positive to get some advantage of the bowler’s unblemished disciplinary track record and his age.
"If you look at the ICC code there could be some advantage with that," said Amir’s lawyer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-c89347 Karim. "He is very important to the future of Pakistan and the response we have gotten from people so far, I am very hopeful. You can call our case strong or whatever but I am hopeful."
Amir, along with the then Test captain Salman Butt and his fellow new-ball pacer Mohammad Asif, was provisionally suspended by the International Cricket Council in September last year. The suspension came after a British tabloid, News of the World, claimed that the trio was bribed by an illegal bookmaker http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mazhar-c75448 Majeed for contriving some deliberate no-balls in the final Test against England in Lord’s during their 2010 summer tour of England.
The British Police and ICC’s Anti Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) investigated into the matter and the trio was subsequently suspended from the game, awaiting final decision regarding their future in cricket. Butt and Amir had also filed appeals against the suspension which was turned down by the head of the ICC’s Code of Conduct Commission, Michael Beloff in November last year.
Now all the three players are in Doha to appear before ICC's Anti-Corruption Tribunal to get a final verdict over their future as international cricketers. The three-member independent tribunal will be headed by Michael Beloff and the other two members being Sharad Rao of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757.
As the hearing finally went underway in Doha on Thursday, much attention will be on 18-year-old Mohammad Amir, who emerged as the most charismatic rising star in the international arena after his notable performance in the ICC World T20 Championship 2009, which Pakistan had won under Younis Khan’s captaincy.
He had swiftly taken his place amongst the most promising emerging players in all three formats of cricket and was in his peak last year until the scandal emerged. He became the youngest bowler in the history of International cricket to complete 50 Test wickets and was the favourite to win the 2010 ICC Emerging Player of the Year award but missed the opportunity after being implicated in the spot fixing saga.
Amir has received sympathy of cricketers as well as fans from all across the globe as he was not only a novice but also naive with the international laws of cricket.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Haroon-Lorgat-c61719, the ICC chief executive, had also thrown his support for the teenager and said that the apex governing body should show some leniency towards him regarding the spot-fixing allegations as he is not only new to the international arena but he is also an emerging star in the game. Lorgat further added that since the International Cricket Council is a commercial organization, it needs the sensational emerging talent to get market recognition.
