http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747’s build-up to World T20 – Cricket News Update
Bangladesh batsman Mohammad Ashraful has expressed his confidence in the team’s solid preparation as they gear up for the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World Tweny20 which is due to kick off in Sri Lanka on September 18, claiming the team’s extensive match practice is the best preparation
they have ever had prior to a World T20.
“We have played a lot of Twenty20 matches during the past couple of months. If you include the practice games then we will have around 17-18 matches going into the first encounter of the World Twenty20,” said Ashraful.
“This is probably the best preparation we have had before a World T20 event. Also, some of us have participated in the Sri Lankan Premier League last month and that experience could be crucial,” he went on to add. “I believe everyone has a better understanding
of the requirements of the shortest version of cricket now.”
In addition to the 6 official T20Is the team has played this year, Bangladesh have also participated in domestic tournaments and unofficial series, all of which are bound to serve as effective preparation for the mega event.
Bangladesh’s 2012 T20 calendar kicked off with an unofficial tri-series in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 XI, and won 2 out of the four matches they played, eventually losing out to a spot in the series final.
The tri-series was followed by a string of T20Is in Europe, with Bangladesh kick-starting the tour with a 3-match T20I series against Ireland in July this year, which they won 3-0. The series included a spectacular 71-run win in the first match of the series
(played at Belfast on July 18), which saw the team posting their all-time highest T20 innings total (190/5), while Elias Sunny registered the best T20 bowling figures by a Bangladeshi player - 5/13.
The series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Netherlands-c753 during the same month, which ended on a 1-1 draw.
The last series the team played was a domestic quadrangular T20 series in Trinidad & Tobago, during which they took on their hosts, Barbados, and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Afghanistan-c745, eventually finishing second.
In addition to match practice as a team, various Bangladeshi players have also participated individually in a slew of T20 tournaments, including the Bangladesh Premier League in February, the Indian Premier League in April/May, and the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 Premier
League last month, which featured (in addition to Ashraful) http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Nasir-Hossain-c77146.
Bangladesh have failed to reach the final stages of the T20 World Cup during the tournament's first three editions - however, the build-up to the 2012 edition appears promising, and after having gained confidence from beating top teams like Sri Lanka and
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 during the Asia Cup in March this year, the Tigers have a solid chance of making an impact this time around.
