Mohammad Asif seeks asylum in England, but what about Veena Malik?
So Mohammad Asif now feels that his life might be under jeopardy following the match fixing scandal that has taken the international media by storm, which has raised doubts about Pakistan’s performances in the past with many senior players coming under scrutiny as well. Given Mr. Asif’s role in acting like a complete oxymoron on more than one occasions for Pakistan, he might as well look for asylum somewhere else, and preferably take his ex-girlfriend with him as well.
The Pakistan cricket fans love the couple and do not want poor Veena left alone in what can be a very unfriendly world and Asif should be the best judge of that, knowing how he has seen it all at such a tender age of 27. Also, isn’t weed illegal in UK? It will be just a little hard for poor Asif to cope with that. Nonetheless, according to reports, the bowler held a half an hour meeting with an immigration lawyer last Friday. According to Asif, he feared that the allegations of spot-fixing might make him a target of dangerous criminal gang’s linked to the underworld betting mafia in Pakistan.
The cricketer from Pakistan asked the lawyer, the different options he had of staying back in UK. He apparently discussed the asylum process with the solicitor from London.
This news is most certainly going to cause anger amongst the cricketing authorities of the country who have time and again bent over backwards to fight for Asif’s case however, unfortunately this man seems averse to learn from his past mistakes. He was banned earlier in his career due to the use of a banned substance Nandrolone, and was later found at a Dubai airport with weed in his wallet. The Pakistani authorities had fought his case and brought him back to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 at a juncture where Asif would have found very hard to get away with possession of an illegal substance.
Asif claimed that he would first wait for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Scotland-c756 Yard’s report to be submitted before he takes the asylum further. If Asif is convicted, he would find himself looking at a life ban, not to mention a possible stint in jail. The 27-year-old fast bowler had asked an intermediary to have a meeting arranged with the lawyer at a Pakistani restaurant in Southall, West London on Friday.
According to sources, he seemed to have looked “very anxious” and an older man who remained unidentified accompanied him. “I think he’s just worried about the backlash at home – that’s what he told me,” the solicitor said. “There’s been a lot of talk and there are undercover betting mafias with a lot of power – that seemed to be what he was worried about.”
According to the lawyer, Mohammad Asif could apply for a refugee status provided he proved that he had a chance of being persecuted by a gang that was out to harm him, in which scenario he will then be expected to argue that his home country Pakistan would not protect him.
Mohammad Asif hails from a very poor family in Pakistan; however he has four homes which include one particular Italianate mansion. Asif finds himself in icy cold waters following the spot fixing allegations with former girlfriend Veena Malik coming forward to state that she had proof that Asif had been involved with various bookmakers from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 in the past as well.
Pakistani fans have reacted strongly to spot-fixing allegations with them protesting at Lahore Airport at http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128’s arrival and greeted him with slogans of “shame shame”. Pakistan is a country passionate about cricket, and many people have suggested that strict action be taken against players who are found to be involved in spot-fixing.
It is not very common for Pakistanis to be granted asylum in Britain with only 65 people given shelter in the year 2009. It however remains to be seen if Asif would really want to take such a serious measure, considering the love of his life is still back home in Pakistan, Miss Veena Malik.
