The disgraced Pakistani fast bowler, Mohammad Asif, is expected to be released in the first week of May after serving half of his one year imprisonment in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Canterbury-c775 jail, London.
The 29-year-old will be the second among the three Pakistani guilty players who is going to be freed. Earlier http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Salman-Butt-c2418, is still
serving his 30-month detention in London.
The trio was charged after being found guilty in a spot-fixing incident in 2010. All were handed separate jail terms by the British court for obtaining and accepting corrupt payments.
The right-arm fast bowler was allegedly involved in bowling deliberate no-balls during a Test match against England at Lords in August 2010. Upon gathering sufficient evidence, the International Cricket Council suspended the guilty trio from all forms of
competitive cricket and latter in 2011, the Southwark Crown Court in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 imposed imprisonment.
The ICC in Feb 2011 had already announced the penalties to the accused players and banned Asif, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Salman-c88163 and Amir for seven, ten and five years respectively – putting an end to their cricketing careers.
Asif was once considered as the spearhead of the Men in Green bowling attack and was renowned for his deceptive seam bowling. He made his international debut in Jan 2005 during a Test match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 before making his first ODI appearance later in
the same year.
However, he remained a controversial figure throughout his playing days. He was first warned twice for using banned steroids and was also detained in Dubai after being caught with recreational drugs. Despite appearing regularly among the top 10 bowlers on
ICC rankings, too much fame got to him and eventually paved the way for his downfall.
The right-armer will be released from custody in the coming month but reserves no right to appeal against the ban, imposed by the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625. He, therefore, is expected to undergo the same rehabilitation process, currently undertaken by Amir upon his return to
