Mohammad Asif to pursue plea against ban – Cricket News Update
Disgraced Pakistan fast bowler, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Asif-c1993, has decided to pursue his appeal in the Switzerland-based Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against the seven-year ban from playing cricket, imposed by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for his involvement in the 2010 spot-fixing fiasco.
The 29-year-old while talking to AFP said, “I hope that I will get a fair result from the CAS and then hopefully able to revive my career. I had filed the appeal when I was banned by the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RD-Shah-c2298 Gill and hope that a date is given to me very soon.”
Last year in November, a London court jailed Asif along with his co-conspirators http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Amir-c76675 after the trio was found guilty of conspiring to cheat and accept corrupt payments to deliberately bowl no-balls during the Lord’s Test against England.
The three players after completing their respective sentences were released, however, Asif chose not to return to his native Pakistan, and instead has been living in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013.
However, the player revealed that he would return to his home land in case he does not receive an early date by CAS.
“If I don't get an early date then I will return to Pakistan and whenever I get a date then I will go to Switzerland. It has been a tough period, without cricket and away from home but I am sure its going to be over soon," said Asif.
Asif has had a controversial international career where in 2006 and 2007 he failed dope Tests, and in 2008 he was detained in Dubai for carrying banned drugs. However, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 using its diplomatic relations with the Gulf state, got Asif released, nonetheless, the player was barred from visiting the country.
He was also accused of secretly marrying a Pakistani actress, Veena Malik, and then defrauded her - grabbing money and other property from the actress.
Asif, however, believes he is innocent and wants the resumption of international career which at the moment seems like a distant probability.
