The 32-year-old received the Test cap because of the ban imposed on the Pakistan captain, Misbah ul Haq, due to a slow over-rate in the last One Day International of the tour at Colombo.
The batsman from Nankana Sahib impressed with his temperament and technique as he scored little cameos in both innings of the match. The gutsy player scored 25 and 22 runs respectively in the Test and handled the Sri Lankan spinners quite nicely.
While speaking to Pakpassion, the former off-spinner expressed that Ayub came out to bat under trying circumstances on both occasions but held his nerves. Tauseef said that the Sialkot-batsman has been doing splendidly well in the national circuit
for many years now and it is a pity that he could not get a chance to represent Pakistan in the previous years.
Tauseef said, “Ayub came out to bat when the team was under pressure and I thought he showed very good temperament during both of his innings. Ayub has the temperament to succeed at this level. Ayub has been performing well in domestic circuit for a while
