http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Hafeez-c76898 not happy with Indian Premier League omission – Cricket News Update
Pakistan’s newly appointed Twenty20 skipper, Mohammad Hafeez, expressed his concerns over the non-participation of his side in the on-going Indian Premier League season five, claiming that the omission has left the team short of competitive action as compared
with the rest of the international players.
The 31-year-old believes that the tournament offer plenty of opportunities for players to improve their skills at playing the shortest form of the game. He added that the experience gained from the IPL will help all top cricketers to perform well in the
upcoming Twenty20 World Cup.
“If you compare the whole world with us, everyone is there in the IPL getting practice in intense scenarios and enhancing their skills, but our players are missing out on that opportunity," said Hafeez.
Hafeez was also bewildered by BCCI’s stance of not allowing Pakistani players to take part in the IPL. He said the decision will always hinder his side’s growth, leaving them with little cricket, only domestic tournaments, as compared with their counterparts
from other countries.
"My concern is that we last played an international series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 in February and since then we have focused on domestic cricket events," said Hafeez.
The all-rounder however, claimed that the arrangement of training camps during the hot summer has allowed the players to prepare themselves well for their upcoming assignments, starting with the tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, where his side will play two Twenty20s,
five ODIs and three Test matches from June 1.
In an attempt to keep the players fresh and suitable for various formats, the PCB has selected different squads, recalling players such as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ahmed-Shehzad-c42359, all of whom have shown good form in T20 versions.
Apart from the above trio, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Haris-Sohail-c61503 have also made their place in the Twenty20 squad after impressing the selectors in the recent domestic tournament.
"Overall we have a new but exciting combination for the Twenty20 matches and it will be interesting to see how they adjust to the challenge ahead," said Hafeez.
The new captain is also hopeful of setting a good example for other players by contributing through his own individual performances.
