Mohammad Hafeez, the Pakistani opening batsman, is delighted after his superb knock in the second of the three-match Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 at Colombo and hopes to perform consistently for the country in future.
The right-handed opening batsman was miserably out of form before the Colombo Test and there were media reports that the selectors were seriously considering dropping him.
The 31-year-old however, rose to the occasion in the second Test and answered his critics in the best possible manner. The opener struggled in the first session of the match but dominated the home team’s bowlers after that and scored
196 runs off 331 balls, in which he struck 20 fours and a massive six.
The opener is relieved to have found back his form and now vows to deliver the goods for the Green Shirts on a regular basis. The all-rounder was recently appointed the T20 captain and his innings at Colombo will give him confidence
to lead the Men in Green well against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033.
Pakistan’s top-order looked in good shape on day one and Hafeez also praised http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Azhar-Ali-c46890, as both of them made his job much easier.
The cricketer from Sargodha claimed that spending time in the middle helped him regain his touch.
"Taufeeq was brilliant at the start as he put pressure on the bowlers and after lunch Azhar helped build a solid partnership," Hafeez said. "It was good for me because I too was able to spend time at the crease. In the earlier games
I wasn't able to do that. I'm really happy that I was able to perform under pressure.”
The opening batsman further added that he had to construct his innings to get back to form and in order to do so; he had to respect the Lankan bowlers in the first session of the match.
"I told myself not to play any big shots early on. After lunch, I decided to play some shots as I was quite settled and it worked for me," Pakistan’s T20 skipper added.
