Pakistan opening batsman Mohammad Hafeez on Saturday said that his side is under no pressure ahead of Wednesday’s much-anticipated semi-final of the ICC World Cup 2011 against archrivals India.
“I don't think that on me or my team there is any extra pressure in playing against India. For the past 6-7 months, we have been following a simple strategy which is to put our best performance on the (match) day and don't think about the
past,” said Hafeez while talking to the media reporters.
The Men in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Green-c60723 have a disastrous record against the Men in Blue in the World Cups as they have lost every time the two sides faced each other in the extravaganza.
However, the Pakistan all-rounder is positive of a turnaround when the two outfits play each other in Mohali on 30 http://www.senore.com/Cricket/March-c74391, 2011. Hafeez said that it was the performance on the given day that matters and not the past records.
“The past is history,” said the 30-year-old right-hander. “Even http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 had not been defeated by anyone for several years in the World Cup before they lost to us…what has happened in the past, we are not thinking about that, but looking
to perform on the given day.”
The right-arm off-break bowler said that bowling is Pakistan’s major strength and they are heavily relying on it. However, he did opine that the batsmen have beautifully complemented the attack so far in the tournament and was hopeful they
would perform even better against the co-hosts and tournament favourites India.
He turned down the concept that putting big scores on the board is the prerequisite to winning a game and said that it was important that the batsmen have the ability to gather the required runs. Hafeez feels the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 line-up has the
ability of adjusting its technique according to the given situation.
Like most of the other Pakistan players, Hafeez also feels that it is the unity among the teammates that has been crucial to their success in the mega event so far.
Hafeez also heaped praise on http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-c89347 Afridi’s captaincy and the way he backed the players which enables them to give their more than 100 per cent.
