http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Irfan-c76983 Idolises Pakistani spearhead Umar Gul – Cricket News Update
Making a comeback to international cricket with an impressive performance against India at Bangalore, the 7'1" tall Pakistani pacer, Mohammad Irfan, tagged the right-arm fast bowler, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Umar-Gul-c94604, as his idol.
“Gul’s the one I have idolised,” said Irfan while talking with The Telegraph.
The tallest bowler ever to feature in Cricket, surpassing the legendary West Indian pacer, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Joel-Garner-c67141 (6'8"), Irfan put up a dazzling show (1 for 25 in 4 overs) during his debut T20I, against India on December 25, 2012.
Coming from a small town of Pakistan (Gaggu Mandi), Irfan was called to the national squad in 2010’s tour of England, where he featured in 2 ODIs. He was supported by former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319
Research Laboratories (picking up 43 wickets that season).
Later he was dropped after he failed to impress selectors with his performances in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 (which
saw the light of day after 5 years, following the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 attacks).
Bowling a tight line (at a consistent pace above 140km/http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Kohli-c2737 in the
next, which earned him his first T20I wicket.
According to Pakistani skipper for the shortest format, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Hafeez-c76898, Irfan served as a “surprise package” for the Indian side.
“The extra bounce which Irfan extracts troubles batsmen... We have given him complete freedom to express himself. We aren’t putting him under pressure,” shared Hafeez.
Irfan, who relies more on pace and bounce than swing, idolises Gul (who also hits the deck hard) and has been a T20 specialist for the Men in Green (having 65-wickets under his belt in 50 games), having led them to the 2009 World T20 triumph.
Pakistan is scheduled to face India for the second T20 contest in Ahmedabad later today. Following up on his impressive display at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Irfan will look to bag another tantalising performance in Ahmedabad.
