Mohammad Irfan could not acclimatise in England in 2010, says the fast bowler’s mentor – Cricket News Update
Delighted with the performances of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nadeem-Iqbal-c78403, the left-armer’s coach and mentor, has revealed that the talented pacer failed to perform during his first appearance in international cricket
as he failed to acclimatize in England.
While Irfan was representing http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Amir-c76675 for the limited-over series.
The lanky speedster however, failed to make an impression as he remained wicket-less in the two One Day Internationals (ODIs) he played and conceded too many runs as well. Apart from his bowling performance, Irfan’s fitness was also
quite shaky as he could not bowl long spells.
While speaking exclusively to Pakpassion, Iqbal expressed that there is immense difference of conditions between Sri Lanka and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Irfan-c64444 to adjust.
“Irfan was in no shape to be playing in England in 2010. He was in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 in the oppressive heat and humidity and was then suddenly asked to go and play in England in vastly different conditions,” the tall fast bowler’s coach expressed.
“Of course it was great news that he was called up to the squad in 2010 and an honour for him, but the reality is that any cricketer would have needed at least seven days to acclimatise from Sri Lanka to England and Irfan wasn’t afforded that luxury. I wasn’t
surprised that he had fitness issues on the tour of England.”
However, the cricketer from Gaggu Mandi performed well in the domestic cricket in the last couple of seasons and has been recalled to the national team. Irfan was originally selected only for the two T20 Internationals against India
but his impressive showing against the arch-rivals has earned him a place in the ODI squad as well.
Taking into account the left-armer’s height, he has the potential to trouble the batsmen all around the world; however, it remains to be seen whether the lanky cricketer can cope with the rigours of international cricket or not.
